Adventurous Listeners Only! There is a warning for some music fans: Breakin’ Out has a tendency to drive away lazy listeners: those who avoid the mind or spirit, those who favor overly hypnotic pop themes, or those who abuse or even overdose on the trendy song themes or monotonous lyrics or phrasings. Those who are convinced songwriters shouldn't really attempt to say anything new or possibly inspirational or important, and those who believe rock and roll is too primitive a form of music to convey any intelligence, reason, virtue or higher message are also known to shun it. However, Breakin’ Out does reach out to adventurous listeners! In direct and indirect ways it lures the better than average listeners – those who appreciate well written lyrics, song stories and more developed themes than "pop songs" -- with fascinating communications, some that haven’t been delivered in popular songs for a long, long time. A Journey to New Realms The songs on Breakin' Out aim for the listener’s exposed or under-exposed heart and where they miss that mark, they are sure to hit other vital locations relating to one's thinkingness or livingness. Listeners' only real complaints are those of being woken up, having to go on a journey or, sometimes, of imagining new things - but hardly ever of boredom. Sometimes a listener takes feeling something new for being preached to. But eventually the feeling wins out for them and their journey unfolds, and they begin to contribute their own imagination and thoughts to the songs. They become their own teachers and even enjoy it! The opening song -- "The Light Around You" -- shows that Boomer is no formula writer for the teen models, easy-listening idols and country icons of today’s popular music culture. One immediately begins feeling a sense of a new journey, or maybe an old one. But even if it is an old journey, it invariably leads to new destinations. "I've lived off of tofu And blown through some bamboo Even studied some kung fu For wisdom
"I rode on an emu And built my own igloo Even practiced some voodoo But that's dumb!
"I yodeled from mountains And bathed in great fountains Even spent my allowance To feel it
"I searched every impulse And stroked sacred symbols But wound up in Limbo That's bull shit!
But I hear the sound of your heartbeat And I feel your love coming through And I know the strength of your powers And I see the light around you

Experienced Artists Contribute to Production All of the songs on the Breakin' Out CD were written by Boomer between February 1998 and September of 1999. (One song is a parody, for which Boomer wrote the lyrics.) The songs were recorded at a Southern California studio in the Spring and Summer of 2000 with full 24 track sound. The Breakin' Out music album was arranged and produced by songwriter and popular Southern California music teacher Tom Fair, former member of the 60's rock band Left Banke (known for the hit song "Just Walk Away Renee"). Tom, in addition to his arranging and producing work, is also a songwriter of over 1500 of his own tunes and solo recording artist of 3 independent music albums. The project was recorded and engineered by multi-instrumentalist and touring bass player of the Righteous Brothers, Alan Kuehne. In addition to playing bass on Breakin' Out, Alan played various electric guitars and added harmonies. Other great contributions on the album came from session players Marc Bosserman (piano), Nelsen Adelard (guitars), Doran Eskinazi (drums) and Juan Bogan (bass). |
